Torsten Nielsen graduated in conducting and singing from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
Besides from Musica Ficta, he is a member of the Danish National Vocal Ensemble and has also been singing with Ars Nova, Theatre of Voices and Mogens Dahl Chamber Choir.
He has done several soloist parts in works such as Fauré’s Requiem, J. S. Bach’s St. John’s Passion and Grieg’s Four Psalms.
In Musica Ficta, Torsten has drawn attention in his performance as evangelist in Lassus’ Sct. Mattheus’ Passion.
Furthermore, Torsten is passionate about his lied-repertoire and has performed in works such as Shubert’s ‘Winterreise’ and ‘Die Schöne Müllerin’, and in Shumann’s ‘Dichterliebe’.
In his spare time, Torsten likes to take a cruise on his old Honda motorbike, and the classical music is spiked with jazz music and Tom Waits.
