The Flemish at Kronborg – Open Rehearsal

15/09/23 - kl 10:30

Kronborg Slot, 3000 Helsingør

Christian IV had strong connections to the Netherlands. His buildings usually featured Dutch architects and were in what is known as the ‘Dutch Renaissance’. However, when Frederik II appointed the Dutchman Bonaventura Borchgrevinck (father of Melchior Borchgrevinck) as Kapellmeister for his musicians and singers, many of whom were also Dutch, in 1587, the Dutch influence was quite strong. Much Dutch music was thus part of the order of the day at Kronborg. This project maps this influence and performs music that is virtually unknown today: composers such as Gistou, Tollius, Trehou, Sweelinck and Borchgrevinck (father and son) will be included in this Kronborg repertoire.
